Designer Spotlight

Rodrigo Otazu

Rodrigo Otazu was born in Argentina. Traveling the world as a model for Calvin Klein, Rodrigo was so inspired by the city of Sydney, that he created his first necklace with a handful of local pearls. This piece was featured in Australian Vogue, and a star was born. In September 2002, Britney Spears commissioned Rodrigo to design pieces for her "White Snake" performance at the MTV Awards. The Britney jewelry was so successful that Rodrigo made many additional pieces for her European tour.

Rodrigo has designed jewelry for many runways--most notably, he has created exclusive pieces for the esteemed designer Christian Lacroix's 'Couture' line. The collaboration, already in its third year running, has proven a huge success.

Another recent highlight in Rodrigo's creative career is his complete re-styling of a Nissan car in association with Nissan. Artists such as John Galliano and Yves Saint Laurent preceded him.
The glamour and dramatic appeal of Otazu's designs has made his collection an instant hit with press and buyers since he entered the US market. Rodrigo says of the concept for his jewelry collection: "Why is my jewelry so special? Because they are 'me'. Emotion is the power of my creations. That's why my jewelry is a success: they are pure".

Rodrigo Otazu currently lives and designs jewelry in Amsterdam
